High performing superfine flock
Higher fleece weight* for the fibre diameter (more profitable) - lower fibre diameter & higher 14% index.
Stronger staple strength* - Higher staple strength & lower CV of Fibre diameter
More resistant to worms
Better WEC ASBV*
*Compared to the average of the superfine/ultrafine flocks in MERINOSELECT (November 2011)
Higher resistant to fleece rot and flystrike
Sheep are not mulesed or jetted, yet flystrike is rare.
Selection emphasis is on a plain body, bright wool, good back and shoulder conformation.
Excellent fleece performance
We are most proud of the numerous champion ribbons in Commercial Value classes, which reflect the profitability of our fleeces.
We also have numerous broadribbons in the subjective classes, (2010: Grand Champion Fleece Toowoomba Show, Champion Topmaker Ram Fleece Sydney Royal Easter Show, Grand Champion Ram Fleece Guyra Show, Champion Unhoused Ram Fleece Armidale Show).
Higher proportion of winners - compared to studs we compete against that have many more sheep than we do from which to draw show fleeces (we have 300 ewes and their followers and only 100 commercial ewes).
Fleeces are mostly shown locally to support the Guyra Show Society and go elsewhere only occassionally.
Sheep are not housed or coated and they do not receive special diets.
We do not show sheep so all sheep can be properly performance recorded under paddock conditions.
